A STOWAWAY has plunged to his death after falling from a plane and landing on a shop in London.
The man was one of two people who had snuck on to the British Airways flight which was travelling from South Africa on Thursday.
It is believed the two men sneaked on to flight BA0054 before it set off from Johannesburg airport on Wednesday evening.
While details regarding the men’s journey are still unknown, it is thought they may have hidden in the wheel recess during the flight to London.
It is understood one of the men fell out as the undercarriage came down on the plane’s approach to Heathrow while the other man clung on.
Flight data reveals the plane would have been at an altitude of around 1,400 feet when it passed over Richmond, The Guardian reported.
The victim fell on to the offices of online store Notonthehighstreet.com in Richmond, southwest London, which is below the flight path.
The man’s friend who also fell, survived the fall. He is now in hospital in a serious condition.
A spokesman for Notonthehighstreet.com said the incident was unrelated to the business or its team members, The Guardian reported.
“We are co-operating with the ongoing police inquiry,” he said.
Scotland Yard said they were investigating.
“A post-mortem examination will be held in due course and inquiries are ongoing to establish the male’s identity. No arrests have been made,” a Scotland Yard spokesman said.
“The surviving man, aged believed to be between 25 to 30, has been taken to a west London hospital and currently remains in a serious condition.”
