‘Ruined’: Airline shreds woman’s suitcase
A STUDENT had the most amazing holiday in Spain only to be greeted with a horror site when her suitcase rolled off the conveyor belt.
AN “OUTRAGED” EasyJet passenger has posted astonishing pictures of her shredded luggage.
Jiwon Choi’s Bossana bag was ripped open and the contents were smashed, crushed, ripped and left covered in what appears to be soot, reported The Sun.
Ms Choi was flying from Seville in Spain to London Gatwick last Thursday and was appalled by the state of her luggage when it was returned to her.
The PhD student at Exeter University posted images of the devastation on the airline’s Facebook page, writing: “An otherwise beautiful trip was ruined by this outrageous experience.
“Their answer made me outraged even more, because without any single word of apologies, they asked me to send more photos ‘clearly showing the brand of luggage’.”
She added: “I was also asked to provide information such as the number of wheels it had, and dimension of the suitcase. I had to take measures of this totally smashed suitcase for their documentation. This is absolutely unfair.
“I did not carry any dangerous or restricted items, and indeed there is no sense of fire. No smell, no melted stuffs, and even papers survived without being burnt.”
She also went on to describe the explanation EasyJet tried to give her.
She added: “The easyJet staff said they found it fallen off from a cargo vehicle for something (and possibly it was dragged all the roadway).
“There is also a chance that it was jammed underneath the conveyor belt.”
A spokesman for the airline said: “easyJet is sorry for the damage caused to Ms Choi’s bag while in transit.
“We work closely with all of our airport partners to ensure our passengers’ bags are handled securely and with care and are investigating this with our ground handling provider at London Gatwick Airport.
“easyJet flies on average over 1700 flights per day across more than 30 countries and incidents of damaged luggage are extremely low.
“Our team is contacting Ms Choi to offer a gesture of goodwill for inconvenience caused.”
The airline have been under the heat recently over damaged luggage.
Earlier this year, a passenger told Sun Online Travel that she had to wait two weeks for her luggage to turn up, and when it did eventually arrive, it was ripped to shreds.
Dr Tamasine Hedderly was furious to find her luggage in bits after a holiday to Rome.
“My Antler suitcase cost £250 and when I rang the shop they couldn’t believe how damaged it was.”
Earlier this year, a Qantas customer had a similar experience when she said $3000 worth of her possessions were destroyed and had to fight the airline for compensation.
