Richard Marx slams ‘chaotic’ event on flight
GRAMMY-winning artist Richard Marx has slammed Korean Air after a four-hour ordeal with a “psycho” passenger on board one of its flights.
POP icon Richard Marx has leapt to the rescue of Korean Air flight attendants, helping take out a deranged passenger on board a flight to Seoul.
The Grammy-winning artist and his wife, Daisy Fuentes, were flying from Vietnam when they said the man sitting in the next row became “crazy” and started attacking the flight attendants and passengers.
Mr Marx claims he stepped in to subdue the man, and was assisted by other male passengers. He’s slammed the airline for their lack of action.
“[Korean Air was] completely ill-equipped to handle potentially deadly situation. Passenger mentally unhinged attacking crew and passengers on [Flight] 480,” he tweeted.
“My wife and I are safe but one crew member and two passengers were injured. The all female crew was clueless and not trained as to how to restrain this psycho and he was only initially subdued when I and a couple other male passengers intervened,” he continued on Facebook.
The Right Here Waiting singer said the altercation lasted four hours, because the man easily broke restraints a number of times, and attacked more crew members.
Pictures shared on social media show a female flight attendant nervously holding a taser as Mr Marx and others grab the man and tie him down with rope.
“I feel horrible for the abuse the staff had to endure but no one was prepared for this. They never fully got control of him. They didn’t know how to use the taser and they didn’t know how to secure the rope around him (he got loose from their rope restraints three times),” Ms Fuentes posted on Instagram.
Korean authorities arrested the man upon arrival in Seoul.
Mr Marx and Ms Fuentes safely made their connection to the United States, but they say they’ll continue discussing the matter on social media.
“Korean Air should be sanctioned for not knowing how to handle a situation like this without passenger interference,” Mr Marx tweeted.
