A Qantas flight has made an emergency landing in Darwin, with one passenger claiming a man on board had threatened cabin crew.

A Singapore-bound Qantas flight from Sydney has had to make an emergency landing in Darwin, with one passenger claiming a man on board threatened cabin crew.

The flight took off from Sydney Airport about 1.30pm on Sunday and was scheduled to arrive at Singapore Changi Airport just before 6.30pm, local time, but made an unexpected landing at Darwin Airport about 4pm, local time.

Qantas described the incident as a medical issue.

One passenger claimed to NT News a “disruptive” man who was “drinking from his own 750ml wine bottle” had repeatedly said the word “explosive” and threatened cabin crew.

“He was clearly agitated, belligerent and appeared to be heavily affected by alcohol,” the passenger claimed.

However, the Australian Federal Police said no report had been made by the airline.

An AFP spokeswoman told news.com.au officers had been advised of the diversion “following a medical emergency on board”.

News.com.au understands AFP responds to all unexpected diversions even if a report is not made.

“The AFP spoke with airline crew upon arrival and no further action was required. The AFP has not received a report in relation to the incident,” the spokeswoman said.

The onlooker told NT News the incident started somewhere over Katherine, Northern Territory before the emergency landing in Darwin, and the man had been escorted from the aircraft by cabin crew.

A video showed a police officer inspecting an empty row of seats with a Qantas crew member while other passengers patiently waited.

According to flightradar24.com, the flight didn’t take off again until 5.30pm and landed in Singapore that night.
