Passenger snapped completing a RAT on-board busy Sydney train
A passenger on-board a train has infuriated Sydneysiders online, after he was snapped taking a rapid antigen test during the busy morning commute.
A Sydney commuter has sparked outrage online, after he was spotted undertaking an unusual activity while on-board a train during the morning commute.
In a photo posted to discussion platform Reddit, a passenger is seen waiting for his result after allegedly taking a Covid-19 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on-board a T1 line train.
“I want to take a bath in hand sanitiser. Guy on the T1 train this morning casually taking a rapid antigen test (RAT) for his spicy cough,” the caption accompanying the post reads.
Despite face masks being mandatory on public transport in NSW, the snap also shows the commuter’s face covering is being worn incorrectly, while another passenger doesn’t appear to be wearing one at all.
The photo has caused a stir online with members of the Sydney subreddit voicing their concern over the bizarre choice of location for conducting a RAT test as well as Covid complacency.

“Ew, I understand not every[one] has access to a car and maybe he was sent home with a RAT from work, but just wait until you get home, you don’t need to know your results right this moment,” one Sydneysider said.
“And at least wear the damn mask over your nose while you wait for the result,” commented a second.
A third said while he trusted that the passenger would be negative given he was travelling on a busy train, they would still take the necessary precautions in the case the passenger did have Covid-19.
“I think I will go home and spend five days in isolation and do a RAT test after sitting next to a bloke who did that,” they said.
Living with Covid-19 has become a large topic of discussion in recent months, particularly in the lead-up to today’s National Cabinet meeting where a number of Covid-related issues will be discussed.
It’s expected that NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet’s calls to reduce the isolation period for Covid-positive patients from seven to five days will be given the go-ahead, subject to all premiers agreeing to the change.
Speculation over the rule change ignited after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese accidentally slipped information about the policy that’s up for discussion, to the South Sydney Rabbitohs, following star Damien Cook’s positive Covid-19 result ahead of this weekend’s match.
Reports from other media outlets suggest Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas are in favour of the change if health advice states it’s the right call.
Meanwhile Australian Capital Territory chief minister Andrew Barr is against the proposal, saying it will be another month until reforms are made, The Daily Telegraph reports.
The remaining premiers seem to be keeping tight-lipped about their opinions on the topic.
Isolation payments will also be up for discussion, with Mr Perrottet and Mr Andrews calling for the program to continue with funding evenly split between state and federal governments.
In the last 24 hours, 12,162 positive cases of Covid-19 have been reported across the country.
There are currently just under 115,000 active cases in Australia, with the majority residing in NSW and followed by Victoria.
Meanwhile, health workers have administered over 63 million doses of a Covid-19 vaccine since the country’s rollout commenced, with 20,205 people rolling up their sleeves in the last 24 hours.
