Paramedics are on scene at one of Australia’s busiest airports after fumes filled the cockpit and cabin of a flight.

Authorities have rushed to Brisbane Airport after a Virgin Airlines plane was forced to make an unusual landing.

Queensland Ambulance Service crews rushed to Brisbane Airport’s domestic terminal at 3:34pm after reports people needed assistance after fumes were detected in the cabin of a flight from Hamilton Island to Brisbane.

The captain put out a PAN (Possible Assistance Needed) call, ensuring that paramedics and airport firefighters were on scene when the flight arrived.

It’s understood fumes appeared in the cockpit and cabin of the aircraft.

Paramedics have confirmed that five people were assessed after being exposed to fumes but all declined to be transported to hospital.

“The safety of our guests and crew is our number one priority,” a Virgin spokesperson said.

“Flight crew followed appropriate safety procedures when fumes were detected in the cabin on approach to landing.
