THIS is the incredible moment a cargo plane ended up causing a traffic jam after skidding off a runway and on to a nearby road.

These amazing pictures show the hulking Boeing 737-400, which was travelling from Paris to Bergamo Airport, known locally as Orio Al Serio in northern Italy, after it crashed through a fence shocking locals reported The Sun.

Frightened motorists could not believe their eyes when the huge plane overshot the runway and burst through the barriers at the side of the road.

Luckily the astonishing incident happened at 4am when there were only a few cars on the road.

All three crew members on the cargo plane were not harmed.

Shocked Twitter user Marco Mauri Pude posted pictures of the crash, saying: “Incident at the Orio al Serio airport!!”

Italy’s National Agency for Civil Aviation (ENAC) said some flights to and from Orio al Serio have been rescheduled to Milan’s Malpensa Airport.
