Miley Cyrus‘s private jet was forced to make an emergency landing after being hit by lightning in a “major” electrical storm.

The Wrecking Ball singer‘s friends and family could be heard gasping as she filmed the sky lighting up through the plane window.

The body of the aircraft was scorched and damaged from the strike.

Writing on Instagram, Miley said: “To my fans and everyone worried after hearing about my flight to Asunción. Our plane was caught in a major unexpected storm and struck by lighting.

“My crew, band, friends and family who were all travelling with me are safe after an emergency landing. We were unfortunately unable to fly into Paraguay. I LOVE YOU.”

Fashion brand Moschino‘s creative director Jeremy Scott commented: “Thank God you are all safe.”

While a superfan said: “We love you Miley. I‘m so happy everyone is OK.”

Miley is currently on the South American leg of her Mileyworld tour, with her last gig coming in the Colombian capital of Bogota.

She rocked out at the city‘s Movistar Arena in front of a rapturous crowd.

The crowd-pleasing star‘s career spanning sets have even seen her performing songs from her Hannah Montana era.

She even cheekily said “f**k Nick Jonas” on stage in Argentina as she launched into old breakup anthem 7 Things, written after her split from the singer.

However, she quickly insisted she was just reading from a fan‘s sign in the crowd.

Her next show is the huge Lollapalooza festival in Brazil on Saturday.
