Crew members aboard a Bonza flight from Rockhampton to the Sunshine Coast have been injured after the aircraft hit “severe turbulence” on Tuesday afternoon.

Bonza chief executive Tim Jordan told NCA NewsWire that several staff members were hospitalised following the incident.

“Last night, a flight from Rockhampton to the Sunshine Coast experienced unexpected and severe turbulence, leading some Bonza crew members needing to be assessed at Sunshine Coast University Hospital,” he said.

“All crew were cleared to return home last night and no customers have presented with injuries.”

Neither the extent of the injuries nor how many staff members were hospitalised is known.

“Our priority is always the safety of our staff and customers and we will be supporting our cabin crew legends as they need,” Mr Jordan said.

A scheduled flight between the Sunshine Coast and Mildura has been cancelled while the aircraft is “being assessed”.

Customers of the cancelled flight have reportedly been offered a full refund.
