‘Eshays’ dine and dash on $500 bill

A Melbourne restaurant has shared now-viral footage of a group of boys allegedly ordering $500 worth of food and then bailing when it came time to pay.

Old School Pizza & Stone Grill uploaded CCTV footage from its Coburg restaurant to its TikTok account – which boasts more than 120,000 followers – of a group of teens dining in their outdoor area.

After greeting one another, the boys can be seen taking a seat at one of two tables. They order their food and after clearing their plates, the video shows them leaving the venue one by one before the last boy makes a run for it.

Restaurant owner Kamal Soueid claimed that not one of the 12 teens paid for their meals, which added up to a total of $500.

“In the seven years we have been here something like this has never happened,” Mr Soueid said.

“As a restaurant, we don’t charge customers until they finish their food. We make sure they are happy and satisfied.

“They had come in and even though we were fully booked we made room for them. We served them and they ordered what they wanted.”

Mr Soueid, who runs the family business, said he wasn’t expecting what was to come.

“It was targeted and a total disregard for anyone or anything.”

The incident occurred on October 8 at around 8.30pm and was reported toFawkner Police Station the following day.

“When I spoke to the police, they said the boys are doing it at other restaurants – the police knew all about it,” Mr Soueid said.

“If someone is doing it tough and can’t pay we would never have uploaded the video.”

But Mr Soueid said he wanted to warn other restaurants about the teens and make sure they never do it again.

He explained they came in groups and left in groups.

“When the first boy got up, he looked around almost pretending he needed to get something from the store across the road,” Mr Soueid said.

“I guess he was testing us to see if we were watching.

“It appears some of the boys planned to run away and it looked like the other guys were thinking, ‘Sh*t I’d better run too, I don’t want to be left alone.’”

The restaurant’s clip has attracted 1.5 million views, leaving thousands infuriated by the act.

“Sorry you guys had to experience this. By trusting and doing good by people and not taking money beforehand, people took advantage of it. Scums,” one person commented.

“Wow, ridiculous,” said another.

A third added: “If my kid was involved I was bringing [sic] him back and he was paying the entire bill.”
