Man praised for telling train passenger to move from seat

A passenger has been praised for backing himself in what many say happens “all too often” on these types of trains.

Passenger’s train act goes viral

A man has been praised for telling a train passenger to move from the seat he paid for after she was comfortably sat in it.

The man had reserved his seat ahead of a train trip which appeared to be in France.

He filmed himself approaching the woman and politely confronting her sharing the clip under the TikTok handle ‘mr_boris_becker’.

And although slightly awkward at times, social media users were quick to applaud his act, with the clip viewed more than 8.7 million times.

“My place is 103,” he told the woman, referring to the seat number he had booked.

The woman then laughed before suggesting he look for another place to sit.

She then pointed toward the empty seats at the front of the train, but the man insisted: “It’s gonna be difficult. My place is 103 and I need my place. I’m so sorry.”

The woman then got up responding “I understand” before blurting out an awkward laugh and adding, “I give your place” as she looked for another place to sit.

Meanwhile, as the woman collected her belongings, another passenger chimed in appearing to have a go at the man for asking the woman to move from the seat.

However, he doubled down, saying it was the seat he had paid for.

“Yeah but, it’s my place,” he told the other passenger.

“But, you know,” she responds, to which he fires back: “But, you know, calm down”.

The clip has attracted almost 10,000 comments with many applauding the man for not backing down.

“You are 100 per cent absolutely right. You paid for it,” one TikToker wrote.

“OMG so stressful! You stood up for yourself, proud of you!!!!” a second person said, while a third asked: “Why is he apologising for wanting the seat he paid for?”

Others also shared their experiences, with one person saying it recently happened to them.

“Someone butted in, I said, ‘If you want her to sit so bad, you can give your seat. I’m sitting in the seat I paid.’”

Many unleashed, complaining it happens “all too often”.

“Entitled people thinking rules don’t apply to them, then have the audacity to moan when confronted,” a furious person wrote.

“The problem is, when he would sit somewhere else and then next stop someone shows up who paid for the seat he is sitting (in),” another added.

Some noted it was a Thalys high-speed train, meaning “it’s not a free seat”.

“So if you go to an empty seat there’s 80 per cent chance that someone will come to ask for his seat,” one person explained.

“I’ve had this happen it’s so embarrassing having to confront someone and them telling me I should go elsewhere … when I paid for a booked seat.”
