Man kicked off Jetstar flight to Bali after lighting a cigarette before takeoff

Passengers bound for Bali on a Jetstar flight were left fuming when a man opted to light a cigarette before takeoff.

Aussie booted off Jetstar flight for smoking

Passengers on a flight from Melbourne to Bali were left fuming this week after their already delayed takeoff was further pushed back by a man who lit a cigarette after boarding.

The individual featured in footage shared to TikTok that showed him being escorted off Jetstar flight JQ1035 by police on Tuesday.

“This guy thinks a delayed flight means he can light a dart on the plane. No Bali vacay for you now,” the woman who filmed him wrote in her post.

She boarded at 3pm in Melbourne and the flight still hadn’t left the tarmac come 7pm, she added.

The flight finally arrived at Denpasar airport at 12.51am on Wednesday after stopping in Darwin late on Tuesday evening for fuel.

A Jetstar spokesperson confirmed the man behind the extended delay “lit a cigarette on board the aircraft prior to departure”.

“Smoking, vaping or the use of electronic cigarettes is not permitted on any Jetstar aircraft, in Australian airport terminals or on the tarmac,” a spokesperson told news.com.au.

“The passenger was escorted off the flight and the AFP were called. Safety is our first priority and our no smoking policy is strictly enforced.”

“Australian Federal Police can confirm officers were called to a flight waiting to leave Melbourne Airport on September 6,” the AFP told news.com.au

“Police were responding to allegations of a man smoking on board a flight. The man was escorted off the plane without further incident.”

The woman who filmed wrote in text across her video the flight was already been delayed prior to the smoking drama.

“When your flight to Bali is already delayed and this guy decides to light a dart so we then have to wait for the police to escort him off,” she wrote.

Some viewers were unsurprised at the ordeal given the flight path.

“Only on a flight to Bali aye,” one viewer remarked.

“No Bintangs for you buddy,” another said, in reference to the infamous Indonesian beer.

The Australian Federal Police has been contacted for comment by news.com.au.

Further rowdy Jetstar antics

The incident comes only a matter of weeks after another rowdy traveller was booted off a Jetstar flight to the sound of applause from the entire cabin after an ugly war of words reportedly erupted over a window seat.

The woman, understood to be an Australian, was filmed lashing out at passengers on the flight from Phuket to Sydney last month.

According to social media posts, the woman became frustrated “because she wanted to sit by the window”.

In one clip shared online she was filmed excitedly saying “what’s happening habibi” to a camera.

In a separate video, her demeanour appeared totally different as she shouted “I’m out, I’m out” while trying to get out of her seat.

“Thanks a f***ing lot,” she said as she climbed into the aisle before removing items from the overhead locker.

Fellow travellers broke out in applause as she made her way off the plane, only for her to make a swift turnaround just before exiting.

She stormed towards one passenger and menacingly asked: “What did you call me?”

A different woman and man stood up and encouraged her to leave - shooing her away and waving goodbye.

Speaking to one flight attendant, the woman was heard asking “am I supposed to ignore it?”, with the employee responding by nodding.

The woman continued to hover at the exit speaking loudly and pointing for some time before eventually leaving.

Jetstar confirmed a woman was removed from the flight after becoming “disruptive and using abusive and inappropriate language”.

“An unruly passenger was escorted off our flight prior to take off in Phuket after becoming disruptive and using abusive and inappropriate language towards other customers and our team members,” a spokesperson told news.com.au.

“Airport security in Phuket was called and the passenger was escorted off the flight. We take safety and security very seriously and this type of behaviour will not be tolerated on our aircraft.”
