‘Lot of vomit’: Couple’s Bali Jetstar flight nightmare
A Melbourne couple said they were shocked when they found the $1800 seats on a Jetstar Bali flight had a strange odour.
A Melbourne couple who paid nearly $1800 for a flight to Bali have claimed they had to sit for six hours in airline seats covered in vomit.
James McNeil and Ciara Scott told the Herald Sun they subsequently became ill after having to go through the sick saga on a Jetstar trip from Bali back to Melbourne.
The pair said they were “disappointed and disgusted” at how they were treated by Jetstar, who initially offered them wet wipes for the mess and even after a complaint only gave them a $50 travel voucher.
On January 8, the couple boarded the Jetstar plane at Bali’s Denpasar airport. As they reached their seats they were greeted by a stench.
“As we went to sit in our seats my partner noticed vomit on the cabin wall and on my tray table as well as hers” said Mr McNeil.
“We looked down and noticed a lot of vomit on the carpet below the seats.”

Mr McNeil and Ms Scott asked to move seats but were told it was full flight.
They were then given cleaning wipes. Unhappy about having to do the airline’s job and mop up vomit they asked if a cleaner could be brought on board.
“They did that which is okay, but when we came back to the seats there was still quite a bit there … we had to ask for cleaning wipes in the end and clean it ourselves,” said Mr McNeil who added he and his partner ended up being sick “for the next couple of days”.
They complained to Jetstar which they said they had to chase up.
“When they did get back to us they sent an email with some generic response which apologised for the seat being untidy, and gave us a $50 voucher,” he said.
“It was disappointing and disgusting,” Mr McNeil said of Jetstar’s email to him.
