Lion jumps through car window, mauls Australian man Brendan Smith on African safari
IT WASN’T the start to his African adventure he expected. But an Aussie mauled by a lion has lived to tell the tale. WARNING: GRAPHIC
IT WASN’T quite the start to his African adventure that he had hoped for.
But an Australian mauled by a lion while on safari has at least lived to tell the tale — and he’s got the scars to prove it..
Perth man Brendan Smith had touched down in South Africa less than 36 hours before a lion had jumped “through the car window and decided to go to town on my legs.”
He said the incident was “pretty full on” but thankfully his insurance came to the party before adding it “could have been a lot worse but chicks dig scars so I’ll be sweet!”
In a graphic post he showed a picture of lions before revealing the wounds he suffered in the attack.
It remained unclear how long the attack, which reportedly occurred near Johannesburg, lasted, but he did confirm he was taken to nearby Fourways Life Hospital for treatment.
His post earned him a swathe of sympathy from friends.
One posted: “Bloody hell mate! Hope it’s a speedy recovery buddy and some awesome scars.”
Another wrote: “Oh my that’s insane!!! So-so happy you’re going to be OK. Definitely a story for the ages.”
However the intrepid adventurer was well enough and out of hospital to reveal how he was recovering the following day — by putting his feet up and watching the World Cup cricket final.
“A positive about being couch ridden is that I get to put my feet up and watch the Aussies claim World Cup glory. Always a silver lining,” he posted last night.
“I’m out of hospital feeling good, counting my blessings and now it’s the small but satisfying steps of rehab. When the swelling and bruises have gone down I’ll head back home and be dancing up a storm in no time.”
He also thanked friends and family for all the support he received following the attack.
