Jetstar plane forced into sudden landing while flying in Australia
A Jetstar flight was forced into an unscheduled landing just hours into a flight to Melbourne, with passengers waiting hours to reboard.
A Jetstar flight that was travelling from Cairns to Melbourne was forced to make an abrupt landing in Sydney, following a reported electrical issue on board.
The aircraft, an Airbus A321-200, landed in Sydney where passengers were forced to wait for a replacement aircraft, meaning their journey to Melbourne came with an almost five hour delay.
A spokesman confirmed to news.com.au that the flight, JQ941 (Cairns to Melbourne), was diverted to Sydney yesterday due to an engineering issue. All customers were put on an alternative flight to Melbourne from Sydney later that day.
The incident comes just days after a West Australian traveller was fined and ordered to cover fuel costs for a Jetstar flight that was turned around because of his bad behaviour.
The Sydney-bound Jetstar flight, which departed Perth on September 25, 2023, was turned around and required the pilot to dump around $20,000 worth of fuel mid-air before it could land safely.
Jetstar staff were forced to call for help from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) on the ground, accusing the passenger of being drunk and disorderly.
On board the plane, it is understood the man, who was 33 at the time, was stopped from ordering alcohol when he began intimidating cabin crew.
He then refused the pilot’s orders to fasten his seatbelt. Following the refusal, he then locked himself in the toilet.
Following the disruption and pilot’s required turnaround, 150 passengers were stranded in Perth overnight.
The man, was charged with one count of disorderly behaviour on an aircraft and one count of failure to comply with safety instructions and ordered to pay more than $8,630 in fuel costs on top of the $9000 fine he was slapped with for the disorderly behaviour.
