HUNDREDS of people including members of Indonesia’s Army were forced to clean up one of Bali’s popular beaches after it became inundated with rubbish.
The pollution began building up on part of Kuta Beach, which is world famous for being a destination for surfers and partygoers. The beach has plenty of accommodation options, bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
On a good day, this is what it usually looks like.
But the build up of rubbish on the beach came as Bali is currently in its wet season, which lasts from October through to March every year.
During this time it is quite common for seasonal rains to carry tonnes of waste, allowing it to be washed up on Bali’s popular beaches.
The area was temporarily closed as members of the Indonesian Army and staff from local hotels worked together to complete a massive clean-up of the area.
Most of the rubbish ended up near the four-star Hard Rock Hotel. Staff from the hotel and nearby five-star Legian Hotel and four-star Kuta Seaview Hotel also volunteered to remove the waste.
Photos of the clean up were posted on social media.
Hard Rock Hotel Bali and TNI Udayana worked hand-in-hand to clean and remove rubbish from a section of Kuta Beach.
