Grim find after passenger disappears from Spirit of Tasmania
Police have made a grim discovery after a man was reported missing from the Spirit of Tasmania ship on Sunday night.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner after the body of a man who was a passenger on the Spirit of Tasmania was found in waters off Geelong.
Victoria Police said the death of the man, who they said was a 46-year-old from the Melbourne suburb of Cheltenham, was not being treated as suspicious.
It’s understood the ship had left the port of Geelong and was en route to Tasmania when an alarm was raised, forcing the ship to return to Geelong.
The man’s body was found at about 8.50pm, police said.
The incident occurred less than a week after the US Coast Guard suspended its search for Australian man Warwick Tollemache, who went missing from the Quantum of the Seas, which was travelling from Brisbane to Hawaii.
