GoFundMe launched for Gold Coast woman’s recovery after Hamilton Island crash
A woman has been hospitalised with debilitating injuries after a golf buggy crashed into her while she was holidaying on Hamilton Island.
A woman who was struck in the legs by a golf buggy on Hamilton Island is expected to be flown home to the Gold Coast to continue her lengthy recovery.
Anne, 74, was struck by the motorised cart about 11pm on March 27 while holidaying on the tropical island.
Both of her legs were broken and she sustained cracked ribs and a fractured shoulder in the horrific crash.
The 74-year-old was flown to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition and underwent surgery for her serious injuries.
Anne’s daughter, Michelle Price, said on social media that her mum had finally received approval to be medically transferred to the Gold Coast so she continue her treatment and rehabilitation in a private hospital closer to home.
Ms Price and her father John have remained by Anne’s side in Mackay since the debilitating incident.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched by family friend, Tanya Lomax, who said Anne was expected to take a long time to recover.
“The expected recovery is long, around six months,” she said.
“As with such major injuries, there have been many unexpected costs, right now and for a long time to come in the future.
“As we cannot take the pain away, unfortunately, we can certainly take the some of the financial pressure off.”
The GoFundMe has raised $7000 of its $10,000 goal at the time of publication.
Anne’s accident comes less than 10 months after a new bride was killed in a golf buggy incident on her honeymoon on the popular holiday island.
Marina Morgan was killed in a golf buggy rollover on June 22, 2022.
It is alleged her newlywed husband Robbie Awad – also known as Robbie Morgan – had been attempting a U-turn on the corner of Coral Sea Ave and Whitsunday Boulevard when the cart overturned.
His 29-year-old bride died at the scene despite attempts by an off-duty firefighter, a doctor, and dentist to save her life.
Mr Awad is facing four charges, the most serious of which is driving without due care and attention causing the death, over the fatal crash.
He has pleaded not guilty and his matters are ongoing in court.
