Four people rescued from Movie World rollercoaster
Four people have been rescued after they were trapped 10m in the air on a popular ride at a famous theme park.
Four people have been rescued from the Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster at Movie World on the Gold Coast after they were trapped more than 10m in the air for 90 minutes.
The group’s carriage got stuck about 3.30pm on Sunday in a section of the rollercoaster that theme park staff could not access.
A Village Roadshow Theme Parks spokesperson said the ride was automatically triggered to stop after a rider tried to take off an item of clothing.
“Late this afternoon the Scooby Doo ride‘s safety system was engaged following a minor guest behaviour incident which resulted in a ride stoppage in the high zone,” they said.
Firefighters had to be called to safely remove the four people.
“Due to the location of the stoppage, we engaged with Queensland Fire & Emergency Services (QFES) to conduct the unload process.
“The guests on-board were completely safe throughout the process and our expert team were in constant communication with them. The four guests on-board were safely unloaded.
“The safety and wellbeing of our guests is our highest priority and our team conduct regular training with QFES on these scenarios and we would like to thank them for their assistance.”
There were no reported injuries and Queensland Ambulance Services were not called.
