‘Entitled’: Athlete slammed for complaint about flight attendant
An athlete has hit out at a flight attendant for making his pregnant wife clean up their kids’ mess – but not everyone is on his side.
A Canadian baseball player has publicly criticised a United Airlines flight attendant for making his pregnant wife clean up his children’s mess on a plane.
But the complaint has not gone down the way it appears Anthony Bass expected, with many siding with the flight attendant and slamming the 35-year-old athlete as “entitled” online.
“The flight attendant @united just made my 22 week pregnant wife travelling with a 5 year old and 2 year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter. Are you kidding me?!?!” he posted on Twitter on Monday.
The comments came flooding in.

“Just because you’re rich doesn’t mean everyone is your servant. I hope this helps,” wrote American comedian, writer and producer Mike Drucker, gaining more than 35,000 likes in support.
Another Twitter user asked: “Genuinely curious who should clean up the mess your 2 year old made? As a parent of three kids I am the one responsible for them.”
Bass replied, “The cleaning crew they hire!”
On his Instagram story, Mr Bass thanked fans for their support and wrote: “United Airlines states they are taking care of the flight attendant internally”.
Bass married Sydney Rae James in 2016 and they have two children, Brooklyn Rae, 5, and Blaire, 2.
Ms James announced she was pregnant with their third child on February 1 this year.
She is the sister of American country singer Jessie James Decker, who also publicly criticised the airline.
“My sister @sydneyraebass just texted me from her flight on @united. As you know, she is five months pregnant, high-risk, and also travelling alone with her two small children,” Ms Decker wrote in a since-expired Instagram story.
“Blaire accidentally spilled some popcorn in the aisle, and the flight attendant came up to Sydney with a trash bag and a wet wipe, telling her the captain wants Syd to clean up every drop,” she continued.
“My poor sister is on her hands and knees, crying in the aisle, completely humiliated and exhausted, with her children while everyone else watched. Way to go, United.”
Ms Decker also claimed her sister was told popcorn in the aisle was a safety hazard.
On Tuesday, Ms James and Bass both posted a photo on Instagram of their youngest daughter smiling with a bag of popcorn.
United Airlines responded to Bass’ tweet with their own.
“We certainly understand your concern and we’d like to look into this,” the airline wrote, asking Bass to send further details about the flight.
