‘Dumb f**k passengers’: Train guard suspended after wild passenger rant
A train guard has been suspended over offensive comments made about passengers while he was working, including calling them dumb.
A train guard has been suspended after he was caught live streaming a wild rant about passengers while on duty.
The employee swore while making offensive comments about passengers during a livestream while he was working on a Sydney train on Sunday night.
“A lot of dumb f**k passengers today,” he said in footage obtained by 7News.
“You expect the train to wait for you like a f***ing taxi.
“In the old days you used to bash the f**k out of passengers,” he added before laughing.
NSW Premier Chris Minns said on Monday he was “surprised” he needed to say swearing at members of the public is “not appropriate”.
“I haven’t seen it, I try to stay off YouTube particularly at night before I go to bed, but there’s obviously protocols in place,” he said at a press conference on Monday.
“That goes for all public service, particularly those that are engaged with the public and are responsible for giving communication and safety advice or safety instructions to members of the public and we’d expect all public servants to follow those rules.
“It doesn’t sound good, so no it’s not appropriate to swear at members of the public.
“I’m surprised I have to say that but clearly there is really strict rules and regulations in place and that’s for a reason, we want to make sure that the public have a good experience on NSW public transport.
“I’m pleased to say generally speaking they do.”
NSW Transport Minister Jo Haylen also said the incident was “unacceptable in every way” while speaking during question time on Tuesday.
“I emphasise, however, that the vast majority of the 10,000 staff who run our rail network take a great deal of pride in what they do,” she said.
“They bring a great deal of professionalism to their job every day.”
A Sydney Trains spokesperson confirmed the staff member had been suspended following the incident.
“Sydney Trains is aware of footage of a member of our staff using inappropriate and offensive language in a livestream while on shift,” the spokesperson said.
“We treat the safety of our passengers and workforce with the utmost seriousness. The behaviour witnessed in this video falls well short of the standards we expect.
“This staff member has been identified and has been suspended from duty while we conduct an investigation. This incident will be managed in accordance with our code of conduct and operational safety procedures.”
