Dramatic moment world’s largest plane lands sideways as airport is battered by ferocious winds
DRAMATIC vision has emerged of the moment the world’s largest passenger plane was violently rocked by strong winds while attempting to land.
THE world’s largest passenger plane was rocked violently by strong winds as another jet bounced off the tarmac while descending onto a runway in a ferocious storm.
According to The Sun, the Emirates Airbus A380 was almost forced to land sideways and a Swiss International Air Lines pilot had to abort landing as they arrived at Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport.
The Emirates pilot can be seen performing the special “crab” landing technique to overcome the adverse conditions.
The manoeuvre sees an aircraft drifting to the side as it approached the runway in order to ensure it lands in the centre of it.
Stunned onlookers watched on as the plane was buffeted by strong winds.
It continues to rock back and forth before finally flying forwards and successfully landing.
The footage was posted on YouTube yesterday as Amsterdam was battered by storms.
A second clip shows the nerve-wracking moment a pilot was forced to abort its landing after being knocked sideways by powerful winds.
The Swiss A320 plane was coming into approach at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam when it was rocked violently sideways.
As it reaches the runway, the plane lurches onto its side and nearly scrapes its wing on the tarmac.
It is then knocked the other way and continues rocking from side to side as the wheels near the ground.
After it bumps onto the runway, the pilot realises it isn’t safe and pulls the plane up at the last minute as shocked onlookers watch on.
As it flies back into the murky sky, the plane can still be seen lurching on its side.
The dramatic video was posted on YouTube by Schipholhotspot yesterday and has already reached more than 300,000 viewers.
Storms unleashed strong winds across parts of France, Belgium and Netherlands over the weekend.
