An Adelaide man who drunkenly lashed out at flight attendants on-board a domestic flight has asked a court to release him from prison while he awaits the outcome of an appeal against his sentence.

Dominic Bol Bol, 29, was earlier this year handed a six-month jail term for his “frightening” behaviour on a Tiger Airways flight from Sydney to Adelaide in August 2019.

The Adelaide Magistrates Court was told on Wednesday that he had lodged a Supreme Court appeal and asked to be released on bail while he waited for a decision.

His lawyer asked for straight bail, but a prosecutor said Bol Bol had a history of failing to comply and asked for home detention or supervision conditions.

Bol Bol, who appeared in court by video link, was told by Magistrate Jayne Basheer to “remain silent” after he questioned why she was considering home detention bail.

Ms Basheer ordered a bail inquiry report and adjourned the case until later this week.

In sentencing, Magistrate John Fahey said Bol Bol was intoxicated and carrying bottles of alcohol and aloe vera juice when he boarded the plane on August 29, 2019.

He said a flight attendant who asked him to hand over the juice was met with abuse.

“You were told then that if you were not going to behave then the aircraft may be diverted back to Sydney,” he said.

“Again you were asked to hand over the aloe vera juice.

“You refused, but, in any event, it was taken from you.”

Bol Bol loudly said to the attendant “f**k off, give me back my bottle”, stood up and walked towards the front of the plane.

He tried to move forward to the cockpit while continually asking for the bottle back, waving his arms, clenching his fists and pushing crew members around.

Mr Fahey said passengers stepped in to help block Bol Bol before he targeted a cabin manager and crew member with threatening behaviour.

Bol Bol, of Klemzig in Adelaide’s north, was arrested by Australian Federal Police officers when the plane landed and later returned a blood-alcohol content reading of .240.
