A long-awaited holiday has taken a tragic turn for one family, with a mother stuck in hospital for the foreseeable future.

New Rules For Bali Tourists

A long-awaited holiday has turned into a nightmare for one Perth family, with their mother unwell in ICU for the foreseeable future.

The Reyment family were on a trip to Bali when Kristy contracted pneumonia, which led to respiratory failure.

On top of that, a mass has been found on her lung which needs investigating.

The family of five were meant to head home on Monday morning, however, they still have no idea when they will be back with the 45-year-old nursing student still stuck in the ICU for at least another week.

Ms Reyment’s husband Steve said it started with a bad cough and pain in her chest. “They told us one of her lungs was completely full with fluid — she went into respiratory failure,” he told 7News.

“It’s totally heartbreaking. I’m trying not to show the kids.”

Hospital, accommodation, and flight costs have exacerbated the awful ordeal, with the family already having to pay $15,000 upfront for the hospital stay.

The hospital bill is expected to amount to $25,000 or more on top of the additional cost of accommodation, change of flights and loss of wages.

Mr Reyment claims he’s been left in limbo by the travel insurance company Cover-More.

In a statement, Cover-More said “we are assessing the claim as quickly and as fairly as possible while ensuring Kristy is being cared for appropriately”.

Family friends Candice Bruff and Chevelle Oldfield set up a fundraiser to help the family with bills and to get them home.

Ms Oldfield said she wanted to take the financial stress away from what has been a terrible experience for the family.

“Steve has been tirelessly contacting all of Kristy’s doctors in Australia, getting numerous medical records from multiple sources to get the insurance sorted, all while trying to entertain three kids who are very upset that their mum is so sick,” she said.

“Having to see her that way with no indication how long she will need to stay in hospital to recover. The kids are also missing out on valuable school time.

“I know they would appreciate any support they can get to make sure Kristy and the family can get home and discharged from hospital.”
