Delta flies puppy to Detroit, Las Vegas and Salt Lake City by mistake

AN ANGRY dog owner is demanding answers after his young pup was flown across the country and sent to the wrong destination.

Delta misroutes puppy on cross-country trip

A FURIOUS dog owner has unleashed on an airline after his eight-week old puppy was sent to the wrong city and flown across the US.

Josh Schlaich, from Idaho, was left barking mad and posted a furious Facebook response after the pup failed to turn up at its expected destination.

Mr Schlaich has since been reunited with his young dog which was sent to Las Vegas and Salt Lake City before finally arriving into his care.

The frustrated owner posted the vent after he failed to get a response from Delta Airlines by phone.

The puppy was due to fly from Richmond, Virginia to arrive in Boise, Idaho on Saturday evening, connecting in Detroit and Minneapolis. But due to a mix-up, Mr Schlaich received the wrong puppy when he arrived at the airport.

Instead, his dog spent the night in a kennel in Detroit. The following morning it was flown to Minneapolis, but then things went awry again and Delta said the animal ended up in Las Vegas. From there, the pup was flown to Salt Lake City, finally getting to Boise on Sunday night.

Mr Schlaich said his dog appeared to be happy despite the excess air travel.

In his Facebook post on Saturday, Mr Schlaich said he was called by someone at the airline but soon got the run-around.

“Was then given the number of the boarding facility — a disconnected line. Was not given a call back number by Detroit person, and the customer service would not give me their direct line,” his post reads.

“Tried calling Delta Cargo customer service, only to be yelled at by the rep and hung up on. No idea where my dog is, or what conditions he’ll be placed under for the next 24 or more hours. Don’t know when he will come into Boise tomorrow. No idea who to call. Absolutely ridiculous customer service.”

The airline said it was investigating what went wrong, CNN reported.

It confirmed there was a mix-up somewhere between Richmond and Boise and is working to determine how Mr Schlaich actually received the wrong puppy.

It is one of several incidents involving pets and airlines in recent days.

A family said United Airlines mistakenly flew their beloved pet to Japan instead of to their new home city of Kansas.

Kara and Joseph Swindle, along with their children and 10-year-old German Shepherd Irgo, were moving to Kansas from America’s west coast.

However when they went to the United Airlines cargo facility after landing, they found a great dane waiting for them, which was the animal which was supposed to be flown to Japan.

United acknowledged accidentally sending their dog to Japan and flew it back over the weekend.

This came a few days after United Airlines was in the headlines after a dog died on one of its flights.

Maggie Gremminger posted the horrific account of the tragedy on Facebook after the dog, which was travelling in a TSA-approved dog carrier with a woman and her two children, was put in an overhead compartment.

Ms Gremminger said a flight attendant forced the woman to put her dog and the carrier in the compartment, even though she didn’t want to.

The woman eventually did what she was told but by the time it arrived at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, the dog was dead.

The airline took full responsibility for the animal’s death.

United Airlines said it was suspending the transportation of animals in the cargo compartments of planes following a series of mistakes.

It said it won’t be accepting any more reservations until the review into the errors was complete in May, USA Today reported.
