Christchurch family complain of unsafe and unclean room at Towers of Chevron Renaissance
A NEW Zealand family documented photos of their ‘unclean’ room during their recent Gold Coast holiday and have taken the matter up with authorities.
A KIWI family who forked out more than $900 on Surfers Paradise accommodation they say was unsafe and of a poor standard have complained to authorities.
Gold Coast City Council officers will conduct an assessment of Towers of Chevron Renaissance to make sure the hotel complies with adequate standards of hygiene, sanitation and safety after being passed the complaint from the Office of Fair Trading.
Christchurch resident Stephen Matthews, who visited the Coast with family members Michael Douglas, Kristy-Lee Donnan and her 11-month old baby Marlie Donnan, filed the complaint after deeming the property unsafe because his wife suffered an allergic reaction they believe was due to dust mites.
Photos supplied to the Bulletin show extensive dust around the accommodation, mould in the wet areas, grease in the kitchen and sticky or dirty floors and carpets.
COUNCIL TO DECIDE SPIT RESORT HEIGHT
The family received a full refund for their stay between July 31 and August 3 but Mr Matthews said he wanted to alert others to the issue and make sure it was rectified because he did not believe the hotel adequately addressed the cleanliness problem after they checked out.
A spokeswoman from the hotel yesterday said the guests were moved to a satisfactory apartment after their first night’s stay and were given a refund.
Mr Matthews said the experience would long be remembered by their family.
“The most disturbing fact is that the accommodation supplier placed another family in straight after we abandoned the unit,” he said.
Mr Matthews said he had concerns about the young baby being exposed to such an environment,
The Office of Fair Trading deemed the matter had been dealt with through a refund and referred the complaint about cleanliness of the room to council.
