Bronte beach on Sydney’s eastern suburbs packed on Christmas day

New footage has revealed the immense size of an unruly Sydney beach party that has sparked Boxing day outrage.
The footage shows Bronte Beach, a stone’ throw away from the more popular and larger Bondi Beach, absolutely packed, with little space on the sand.
A social media user posted a video on X of the beach at 2:09 in the afternoon.
The person wrote “OK maybe full now.”
The video, which has been viewed by almost 200,000, shocked social media users.
The wild beach party is a mecca for thousands of tourists and backpackers travelling to Australia for the summer.
Despite its attraction to foreigners, the event has in recent years drawn the ire of locals, largely due to the rubbish left behind.
Television personality Osher Gunsberg described the revellers as “disgusting”.
“Ah man bit of a bloody mess that crew left behind too,” the Bachelor host said.
“Should have seen the rubbish left behind. Disgusting,” one person said.
“Worst part is they left the place an absolute mess too,” another added.“(They) treat out beaches like they mean nothing.”
“This is the one thing I cannot stand about Sydney … There’s no personal space (or parking space),” a third complained.
Another commented the usually popular Bondi Beach was “relatively empty” in comparison.
“The wife and I walked our dogs to the beach this morning for a run and a swim (about 10:30) – Forresters Beach about an hour north of Bronte. There would have been maybe eight or nine other people on our end of the beach – probably same at the southern end,” another wrote.
Bronte Beach Patrol captain at Surf Life Saving NSW Paul Harrington told news.com.au the beach was “definitely at capacity” but described it as “manageable” as life savers were prepared.
“Over the last couple of years it has been building,” he said.
“About four years ago the local council cut back the partying at Coogee and Bondi is a lot more visible. People consider Bronte a pretty beach.”
He said most of the partying did not end up in the water.
“Everyone was pretty well behaved. There were a few rescues but they were a lot better behaved than previous years.”
Bronte beach is considered one of Sydney’s most dangerous beaches because it always has a rip on the southern end called ‘The Bronte Express’.
