Australian tourist killed in Bali motorcycle crash identified

The man killed in a hit and run motorbike crash in Bali has been identified as 33-year-old Australian tourist Bradley Semmens.

The man who died in a hit and run motorcycle crash on a remote road in Bali has been identified as Australian tourist Bradley Semmens.

Semmens, 33, was riding a Honda Scoopy motorcycle along the Persinggahan Highway, near the small town of Klungkung on the southwest coast of the island, when a speeding motorbike approaching from the opposite lane collided with him at about 3:30pm on Tuesday, according to local media.

Klungkung Police spokesperson Agus Widiono said the motorcyclist travelling in the opposite direction crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with Semmens and fled the scene, leaving the young Aussie to die on the side of the road.

Semmens was flung from his motorcycle and suffered a head injury.

“[Police] are now carrying out investigations to find out the identity of the motorbike driver who was involved in the accident with the victim,” Mr Widiono said, per local news site Detik Bali.

One witness, who was standing on the side of the road when the incident occurred, told police the highway was relatively quiet at the time.

There were a group of locals nearby who rushed to help Semmens, but his injuries were too severe.

The Klungkung Police Traffic Unit and Kring Sehat (Kriss) Klungkung ambulance arrived at the scene shortly after and pronounced Semmens dead.

Mr Widiono said none of the residents who witnessed the crash were able to give a description of the perpetrator.

“Because they were busy helping the injured person, the perpetrator was not identified and had already fled to the east,” he said.

Semmens’ body was taken to the Klunkung General Hospital, where it awaits “official embassy procedures”, Mr Widiono said.
