An Australian man has died while hiking in a remote section of Nepal, close to Mount Everest.

An Australian man has died while trekking in a remote region in Nepal.

The 63-year-old man died while hiking to Tumlingtar in the Lukla region of Nepal, according to Inspector Ram Kishore Sha from the Solukhumbu District Police Office, who confirmed the man’s death to SBS.

“He fell unconscious, and an Australian doctor present at the scene tried to revive him but couldn’t,” Inspector Sha said.

The region is popular with tourists wishing to trek Nepal’s peaks including Mount Everest.

Inspector Sha said the man had only arrived in the region on Monday.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) confirmed the death to NCA NewsWire.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian man who died in Nepal,” a DFAT spokesperson said.

“We offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”

The cause of death is currently unknown.
