An Australian man on holiday in Bali has been left with horrific stab wounds and thousands of dollars in medical bills following a brutal stabbing attack.

The partner of a man allegedly set upon and stabbed while standing outside a convenience store in Bali is hoping to raise funds to pay for his “extreme” hospital bills.

Queensland woman Scarlett Carruthers launched a GoFundMe page on behalf of her boyfriend, Peter Nye, after the 28-year-old-old FIFO worker was allegedly bashed by a “group of men” in the popular tourist destination of Kuta on Friday.

Ms Carruthers said the attack, which happened on the couple’s last night in Bali, resulted in both Mr Nye and his friend sustaining more than 20 stab wounds between them.

“We decided to go for a meal and then get an early night ready for our flight home the next day,” the woman explained on the GoFundMe page.

“My partner and his friend ended up being stabbed over 20 times in the face, neck, head, eye, chest, both arms and ear.

“My boyfriend nearly lost his eyesight and now has to have cosmetic surgery on his face. [His friend] nearly lost his life due to blood loss, he was given 30 minutes to live if we didn’t get to the hospital on time.”

Mr Nye, according to his partner, has more than $50,000 worth of hospital bills to cover. The pair failed to get travel insurance prior to their trip to Bali.

Ms Carruthers said that neither she nor her partner had purchased travel insurance, meaning the hospital stay, surgery, extra accommodation and flight changes is amounting to thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses.

“We are now stuck in hospital where they won’t preform any surgery until we pay for the bill first,” she explained.

“The bill for my partner [Peter] is $50k minimum.”

The distraught traveller said her friend who was also involved in the attacked and suffered from extensive blood loss is also up for around $15,000 in medical bills.

Ms Carruthers said that in addition to the medical bills, the pair will need to pay for accommodation and book new flights given they were unable to use their original tickets.

“We know we should have gotten travel insurance but unfortunately we were stupid and forgot not expecting anything like this to happen,” she stressed.

Mr Nye, whose social media account is filled with photos of recent trips to Bali, has posted from Ubud, Seminyak and Denpasar in the past year alone.

Currently, the fundraising page has raised almost $5600 of a $50,000 target.
