Airport worker sacked after scribbling obscene message on a baby’s suitcase
A couple who checked-in to the airport “late” were shocked to discover an “outrageous and rude” message on their child’s suitcase.
An airport worker has been sacked after scribbling an obscene message on a baby’s suitcase.
Mario Lucas, 40, was shocked to find the words “c*** stop checking in late” written in pen on the hold bag for his seven-month-old son.
He spotted it after landing back in Cyprus from Stansted following a trip to see relatives in the UK, The US Sun reports.
His young family had checked in for their Ryanair flight to Paphos, a city in Cyprus, 90 minutes before take-off.
“It’s not the recommended two hours but I’ve definitely checked in later. We had no issues at check-in,” Mr Lucas said.
“No one said anything to us at the desk. Everything was fine at the airport.
“When we arrived in Cyprus, we were at baggage reclaim and I saw my son’s suitcase on the belt.”
Mr Lucas said his wife Serena noticed the writing straight away.
“I’m annoyed as it was a brand new suitcase we bought in September.
“And it was actually my son’s suitcase and calling a seven-month-old that word is rude and outrageous.”
He has since complained to the Irish budget airline and has demanded they replace the suitcase.
The airline investigated the incident with its Stansted baggage-handing contractor ABM Blue Handling.
The contractor said: “This unacceptable incident was reported by our own team on the day, immediately investigated and following conclusive evidence, the individual involved has been dismissed.
“Mr Lucas was contacted by the airport and an apology extended. We have a zero-tolerance policy for offensive behaviour, and we want to extend our sincere apologies to Mr Lucas.”
