Sydney hotel launches epic ‘photography suite’ in stunning harbourside location

It’s one of the most picturesque cityscape views in the country. But now, the best room in this hotel got even better.

What to do over summer: One fun event in each state

It’s one of the most picturesque cityscape views in the country.

Sitting just below the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Park Hyatt Hotel (which is home to the $23,000 per night suite and recently played a part in Hamish Blake and Zoe-Foster Blake’s Tourism Australia ‘Big City Escapes’ campaign) has another lush experience to add to its portfolio.

Teaming up with Fujifilm, the hotel has launched Australia’s first ever five-star photography experience – all within your own private suite with uninterrupted views of Sydney’s stunning harbour and Opera House.

Dubbed the “GFX Suite”, a selected hotel room within Park Hyatt is kitted out with one of the world’s highest-performing large-format digital cameras.

The newly launched 102 Megapixel Fujifilm GFX100s (valued at $9499) is all yours to use throughout the stay, along with a bunch of lenses to keep you snapping all day – and night – long.

Location, location, location

The choice of hotel obviously came down to the location, and after picking up the camera and stepping onto our own private balcony – it’s easy to see why.

Surrounded by the harbour, the bridge, the ferries zipping in and out and of course the Opera House, there’s little reason to leave your room.

You can stay at a camera-inspired hotel room with the best views in Sydney, which comes with a lush camera to capture every moment.

Now, at first glance the camera is a little intimidating compared to my point-and-shoot iPhone. But after sitting down with camera expert Will for a few minutes, I felt like a seasoned pro – and my shots quickly matched.

My Opera House suite comes with not one but two balconies, a massive kingsize bed and a bathtub with a view straight across the harbour – guests who book the photography-lovers experience can choose from different suite types.

There’s the Park Hyatt Cove Suite, which gives guests stunning city views and two balconies or you can even splash out on the Sydney Suite – which spans 350sq m and looks directly at the Opera House and surrounding harbour.

In addition to your lush room, you’ll also receive full access to the Park Hyatt’s facilities including the spa, rooftop pool (a great spot to park yourself for sunrise snaps) and the fitness centre that overlooks the harbour.

And the good news is if like me, tech-info goes in one ear and out the other after a few hours pass, the suite comes equipped with an interactive in-room video tutorial on how to use the camera if you get stuck at any point throughout your stay.

But the best bit is that instead of snapping away and letting your amazing array of images sit on an SD card, the suite offers a post-stay photography concierge service which will edit your favourite five images and provide one high-quality print of the best shot.

The suite may be booked for a maximum of two days, irrespective of length of the stay.

The GFX Suite experience is open for bookings until June 30, and open for stays up until July 31 by visiting thegfxsuite.com.
