Qantas, Virgin Australia launch pride flights promotion

Two of Australia’s major airlines have announced a “dazzling” flight ahead of one of the biggest calendar events in the world.

Two of Australia’s major airlines have announced “dazzling” flights ahead of the world’s largest gay and lesbian celebration in Sydney.

Qantas and Virgin Australia will treat passengers on-board its Pride Flights with epic in-flight entertainment – and with one airline giving away tickets to the now sold out WorldPride Opening Concert featuring Kylie Minogue.

Qantas is the official airline partner for Sydney WorldPride and in celebration it will fly members of the American LGBTQI+ community to Australia on its WorldPride flight on February 22.

Aussie comedian Joel Creasey will be hosting the in-flight entertainment where passengers will be treated to limited edition ‘Rainbow Roo’ Qantas pyjamas designed specifically for the flight.

Renowned Aussie chef and Qantas food, beverage and service director Neil Perry will also curate a menu just for the flight.

Those on-board the flight will also get a free general admission ticket to the now sold out Live and Proud: Sydney WorldPride Opening Concert, featuring special guest performer Kylie Minogue. Prices for the flight start from $US1545 ($A2450) return.

“Supporting the LGBTQI+ community is part of the Qantas spirit and this flight will be operated by members of the Qantas Illuminate network, a community of Qantas LGBTQI+ employees and their allies,” Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said.

“We are proud to bring visitors from the USA not only to celebrate Sydney WorldPride, but also to experience all that this vibrant city and country has to offer.”

Sydney WorldPride CEO Kate Wickett said she can’t think of a more “dazzling or glamorous” way to arrive in Sydney.

“The USA is by far the biggest market for international visitors coming to Sydney for WorldPride and we’re excited that Qantas is helping our guests arrive in fabulous style,” she said.

The Qantas WorldPride Flight go on sale today.

Virgin Australia also announced on Wednesday the return of its Pride Flight with more than 1000 seats across five flights available to be booked now.

Maiden Pride Flight services will depart Adelaide and Perth for the first time, joining cities Melbourne and Brisbane.

And United Airlines will fly the first ever Pride Flight from San Francisco to Sydney, in partnership with Virgin Australia departing on Wednesday, February 22, next year.

As for the entertainment, Pride Flight services will be hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race Down

Under stars Coco Jumbo, Karen From Finance, Kween Kong and Maxi Shield.

There will also be some of Australia’s leading drag talent, including Barbie Q, Penny Tration, Philmah Bocks, Sexy Galexy and Tora Hymen.

Flights from Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth will include a pre-flight departure party

with special entertainment by local LGBTQIA+ venues (Fluffy, Sircuit, Mary’s Poppin’ and

Connections Nightclub), celebrity appearances, mid-air drag performances, bottomless

beverages, including DJ entertainment.

The Beresford in Sydney will host the official Pride Flight Landing Party where passengers will be treated to complimentary drinks – an inclusion in the Pride Flight ticket price.

Meanwhile, $30 from the sale of each Virgin domestic Pride Flight ticket sold will be donated

to Minus18, an Australian charity improving the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth.
