‘That is bloody disgusting’: Aussie plumber’s vile find in hotel drain
A plumber has been labelled a ‘hero’ after making a foul discovery while unblocking a drain in an Australian hotel room bathroom.
There’s gross, and then there’s what lies beneath a blocked shower drain.
Most people have probably experienced pulling a little hairball out of their shower drain or watched on as a plumber did the dirty work.
Well, brace yourself — this is next level.
Bruce, the plumber, has pulled what he describes as a “sausage dog-sized” hairball out of a Perth hotel’s shower in what could be the most disgusting video you watch this week.
The comedic plumber has built a huge following on social media, showing the dirty behind-the-scenes of his day-to-day job, and viewers have labelled him a “hero” for his work.
In a five-minute video posted to his YouTube channel Drain Cleaning Australia, viewers witnessed Bruce in his element at a hotel on Hay Street.
Before getting to work, he shows viewers the state of the hotel’s shower, saying, “Well, believe it or not, this is a hotel shower. I mean, look at the state of it, mate. It’s seen better days, and it’s probably seen many people”.
He points out the dripping taps before adding that they were “the least of their problems”.
“I reckon this is the type of shower experience where you come out feeling a little bit more bloody dirty than when you first dipped your toe into the water,” Bruce says.
“There’s mould from bloody a**hole to breakfast and a complimentary bar of soap with some hair … can’t complain, and a slow running drain, that’s why we’re here.”
Bruce then turns on the taps to display how blocked the drain is while sharing with viewers that he’s the type of person who “wears thongs in the shower” at a hotel — easy to see why, now, in his line of work.
Things start to get hairy as Bruce pulls the grate of the drain out of the floor. One strand of hair soon becomes so much more.
“What on earth is that?” Bruce can be heard saying in the video. “Is that a small dog? Are you kidding me, mate?
“There’s a first for everything. Never have I seen a sausage dog down the drain.
“There’s probably a thousand people who have contributed to this.”
He then “fires” the shower up to check if the problem has been fixed.
“It’s a free-running drain now, just like that,” Bruce says. “A bit of elbow grease, and we’ve saved the day.”
More than 17,000 people have watched the video on YouTube alone, with Bruce stating that he’s “living the dream” with his exciting job. “I’ve said it before, and you’re not going to believe me, but I’m living the dream. I mean, what sort of job provides such entertainment,” he tells his fans.
In the comments, Bruce is applauded for successfully unblocking the drain.
“That is bloody disgusting,” one YouTube viewer wrote. “I don’t know how the hotel is still open! You’re a hero doing this work!!”
“You are an absolute boss for rescuing that poor, lost and forgotten sausage dog mate! …” joked another fan.
“Bruce, you bloody legend. There’s no place I’d rather be than here, watching you collect this giant hairball from that disgusting shower drain,” yet another said.
“The world would be a much better place with more Bruce’s in it that’s for sure!” wrote one viewer.
Some fans have been inspired by Bruce to take on their own plumbing dilemmas, sharing their own DIY jobs in the comments.
“Last week I noticed my shower wasn’t draining and I had to ask myself, ‘What would Bruce do?’ I got the old plunger and gave the drain a few pumps. Voilà! The drain was no longer plugged. I gave it some crystals once the water was gone, but I have to tell you Bruce, old me would have had to call the plumber. You’re a lifesaver, mate!” explained one fan.
But what Bruce really wants to know is, are there any plumbers out there who have seen a “bigger bloody hairball?”, because it was the biggest he’d seen in a while.
