There’s nothing more frustrating than having to kill time at the airport because of a long lay-over or delayed flight.

Not everyone has access to lounges and while you can pay upfront, some passengers find it difficult to cough up hundreds of dollars when all they want to do is nap and shower, as there can often be queues.

However, those travelling through Melbourne Airport now have the option of checking into its hotel, ParkRoyal, for a few hours.

The ‘short stay hourly accommodation’ offers those travelling through Melbourne Airport the opportunity to rest and rejuvenate while waiting for their flight.

The hotel previously had the service but halted it due to renovations.

“When it was first introduced, it was very popular, particularly among those looking to fill in time prior to flights, and those who were visiting the hotel for a meeting,” a ParkRoyal spokeswoman told news.com.au.

It’s the only hotel directly connected to the domestic and international terminals.

“The high demand for the offering was part of the reason it was reintroduced.”

The hotel, which is the only hotel directly connected to the domestic and international terminals, has 276 rooms with guests able to choose from three options.

For three hours its $109, five hours it’s $119 and eight hours is just $30 more at $149 per room.

Guests can choose from three options – a three hour stay for $109, five hours for $119 or eight hours for $149.

“The benefits to guests are many — they can check into a comfortable, newly refurbished room for a nap, pop on a robe and catch a movie while enjoying the in-room dining service.”

She added that guests can also enjoy a meal in the restaurant, burn some energy in the gym, cool off in the indoor pool, chill out in the spa, sauna, or steam room, then shower off and get dressed feeling refreshed for the next flight.

“The [aim] is to offer comfort to travellers waiting for a flight, or those experiencing delays or a longer stopover time,” the spokeswoman said.

“When it comes to hotels in the immediate area around Melbourne Airport, this is an offering unique to ParkRoyal Melbourne Airport.

“Given ParkRoyal Melbourne Airport is the only hotel connected to Melbourne Airport’s domestic and international, this is a very convenient option.”

Meanwhile, Aerotel located inside the international terminal (T1) at Sydney Airport also offers short hourly stays.

“Flexible booking hours cater to different travellers’ needs as Aerotel allows booking on an hourly basis so that you can stay for as little as six hours and not more. You choose your check-in and check-out time as you wish,” it states on its site.

Rates start form $99.
