A hit-and-run involving an electric scooter has left a toddler with a broken leg, prompting a police search.

A little girl’s leg was broken on Tuesday in a distressing alleged electric scooter hit-and-run that unfolded at a shopping centre on Main Road, Cardiff, in the Hunter Region.

The incident, which occurred around 10am, prompted a response from emergency services, who rushed to the scene after reports of an injured child.

According to eyewitnesses, a man riding an e-scooter lost control, resulting in a collision with an unsuspecting four-year-old girl.

Shockingly, the man allegedly hastily retrieved his scooter and fled the scene, leaving the injured child behind.

The New South Wales Ambulance paramedics attended to the young victim, providing medical assistance for a broken leg and a laceration to her face.

The injured child was then transported to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition, where she is slated to undergo surgery.

Lake Macquarie Police District officers have launched an investigation into the incident, releasing CCTV footage of someone they want to speak to.

The authorities seek help from the public in identifying the man, described as a caucasian male in his late 30s with short brown hair and a distinctive large tattoo on his right forearm.

The man, wearing a black hat, blue sunglasses, black shirt, black shorts, a red belt, dirty white shoes, and a grey ‘Nike’ hooded jumper, was seen riding a black electric scooter.

Police have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
