Powered by a three-cylinder hybrid engine with about 100kW of power, the new LBX promises to deliver the brand’s trademark design and refinement in a more affordable package than anything currently found in Lexus showrooms.

Prices and specifications for the car have not been confirmed.

The machine is likely to feature a digital dashboard and large central touchscreen, along with premium cabin materials fitting its status as a luxury machine.

Front-wheel-drive is standard in overseas examples of the LBX, but all-wheel-drive is an option made possible by an electric motor on the rear axle.

John Pappas, chief executive of Lexus Australia, says the new model will be a good fit for the brand.

“The LBX, in particular, shows that luxury is not defined by vehicle size. It looks, feels and drives like a Lexus should,” he said.

Prices for the LBX will be published next year.
