Eazybikes has issued a critical recall for youth quad bikes, saying they pose a safety risk to young riders for one reason.

Eazybikes Australia has issued a recall for its youth quad bikes over stability concerns that could cause serious injury or death if the bike tips over.

Specifically targeting the ATV-3EB and ATV-8E models designed for children up to 14 years old, these off-road ATVs present a serious safety risk as they fail to meet the mandatory standards.

The recall states the absence of essential safety elements, such as required warnings, and the lack of testing for lateral stability, raising alarming concerns about the potential hazards these bikes pose to young riders.

Parents are advised to cease using these quad bikes immediately and to contact Eazybikes for the necessary adjustments, including fitting required warnings and receiving stability information.

The affected models, ATV-3EB and ATV-8E, boast various specifications, including different motor powers, maximum speeds, and battery capacities.

This recall is a crucial safety measure, given the substantial risk of injury or fatality if the quad bikes tip over or if users are unaware of the critical safety information.

Eazybikes and Australasian Motorcycle & Scooter Distribution Group urge consumers to prioritise safety and take immediate action.

Quad bike fatalities in Australia

According to Safe Work Australia’s data (as of November 9), there have been 191 quad bike fatalities in Australia since 2011. In 2023 alone, there have been 11 fatalities.

The worst year for quad bike fatalities was 2020, recording 23 deaths compared to eight the previous year.

According to the ACCC, the first half of 2020 saw 14 people, including three children, die in quad bike-related accidents in Australia.

Some 17 tragic deaths involved children under 10, and an additional 21 occurred in the 10 to 19 age group. The age bracket most affected by quad bike-related fatalities is 60-69, with 34 reported deaths, closely followed by those over 70, totalling 33.

Male quad bike deaths significantly surpass female deaths, with 138 and 31, respectively.

The data reveals 90 deaths are work-related, with an additional 79 occurring in non-working scenarios.

Queensland tops the list with 54 quad bike-related fatalities, followed by NSW with 49. Conversely, the ACT has recorded the lowest number, with only one tragic death reported.

As the recall affects products sold online and in Western Australia from June 1, 2021, to August 22, 2023, parents are urged to check the model details and act promptly to ensure the wellbeing of their young riders.
