Epic Games has announced that Aussie music superstar The Kid Laroi will be featured in its hit game Fortnite this weekend.

The rapper, singer and songwriter will feature in an “interactive musical experience” known as The Kid LAROI’s Wild Dreams, which is said to feature a musical performance on Saturday, January 28 at 10am AEDT.

Players who join the Wild Dreams island on Saturday will be treated to new music from The Kid Laroi, including the upcoming song “Love Again” and three unreleased songs. There will also be an afterparty island, where the new songs will play.

Fortnite has become a hotbed for interactive musical experiences in recent years, with the popular game teaming up with huge artists like Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, Marshmello, and more. The musical events have been lauded by players and musicians alike for opening up all new ways for players to experience music in a safe and contained environment.

This isn’t the first time an Australian performing artist has featured in the game, either. In January last year, Melbourne-born singer Tones and I featured in Fortnite’s Soundwave Series, alongside a player emote that mimicked the singer’s hit song Dance Monkey.

The Kid Laroi will also be getting a host of cosmetics in the game, including two outfits – The Kid Laroi and The Rogue Laroi – two lobby tracks, a loading screen, and two tag sprays. The event’s blog post also mentions an emote, a back bling, pickaxe, and more.

The Kid Laroi’s Wild Dreams and Afterparty experiences will be available in the game from this Saturday all the way until April 28, and players will be able to unlock the in-game cosmetics by completing quests within the experiences for a week following the launch.

It’s not the only Aussie event taking place in Fortnite this weekend. The Australian Open is hosting a $70,000 Fortnite tournament, as part of its annual series of events known as Summer Smash.

It comes after Aussie NBL jerseys were added to NBA 2K23 earlier this month, the first time Australian basketball teams have been featured in the long-running series. The jerseys are available to players across the world, with the NBL hoping it brings more eyes onto Aussie basketball.
