Aussie NBL jerseys added to NBA 2K23

A new agreement will let Australian basketball fans don their favourite local team’s jersey in-game in NBA 2K23 for the very first time.

2K has announced a new agreement that will allow Australian basketball fans to purchase and wear their favourite NBL teams’ jerseys in NBA 2K23.

According to 2K, this is the first time official NBL team jerseys have been available in an NBA 2K game, and all NBL jerseys will be available for players to purchase. Interested players can pick up the jerseys at the City if playing on PS5 or Xbox Series, or at the GOAT Boat if playing on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, or PC.

Jeremy Loeliger, the commissioner of the National Basketball League, said that the partnership between the League and 2K will help Australia’s basketball team and jerseys be “accessible to a new legion of basketball fans across the world”.

The NBA 2K series has been developed by 2K subsidiary Visual Concepts and published by 2K annually for over 20 years. The first game, simply titled NBA 2K, was released in 1999 for the Sega Dreamcast. Its follow-up, NBA 2K1 released a year later on the Dreamcast, and allowed players to play multiplayer online, a feature that has become a mainstay ever since.

2K also publishes two other sports series, PGA Tour 2K and WWE 2K, alongside a number of non-sports series such as BioShock, Borderlands, Civilization, and X-COM.

The new update for NBA 2K23 adds jerseys for all ten NBL teams, including 2022 champions the Sydney Kings and 2021 runners-up the Perth Wildcats. Wildcats player Luke Travers said that he was excited to see his jersey in the game, and would be buying one.

“It is going to be awesome to see Perth Wildcats jerseys in NBA 2K23,” Travers said, “As a big 2K fan, I know I’ll definitely be rocking one in the game and I can’t wait to see other players wearing Wildcats’ jerseys as well”.

In other sports game news, EA announced they’d be removing an “inappropriate” CPR emote from their NFL game, Madden NFL 23, following the collapse of Damar Hamlin in a match earlier in the month.

An Instagram post from Nicolas Hamilton recently resurfaced too, showing that formula one star Lewis Hamilton had gifted his brother a “gaming station”. The brothers are reportedly big fans of Call of Duty, and play together online when one of them is on the road.
