Lewis Hamilton gifted brother ‘gaming station’
A resurfaced Instagram story has revealed F1 star Lewis Hamilton and his brother Nicolas both have a passion for Call of Duty.
Fans have stumbled upon an old Instagram story showing that Formula One star Lewis Hamilton and his half-brother Nicolas share a love for gaming, and in particular Call of Duty.
Nicolas Hamilton, the half-brother of Lewis Hamilton, both of whom are accomplished F1 drivers, shared an Instagram story in late-2021 showing off a portable gaming rig he says was a gift from his brother.
The story read: “Lewis Hamilton kindly gave me a portable gaming station so I can still link up with him and play while I’m away racing. Genius!”
Nicolas’ gaming set-up is far from the usual. Where you’d normally expect a gaming laptop or a portable console like the Nintendo Switch, it seems Lewis went with a bit more of a unique option.
The ‘portable gaming rig’ appears to be a Gaems Guardian Pro, a kind of travel briefcase which has a built-in monitor and space for a console and controllers inside. It’s designed to be moved around and is designed with a big focus on portability, with users only needing to plug in one power cable to power the whole set-up.
Despite the PlayStation 5 coming out a year before the photo was taken, it seems Lewis opted to outfit the rig with a PS4 Slim or PS4 Pro. This is likely due to the PS5 being much bulkier than the PS4 family, requiring much more space and ventilation room.
The brothers can be seen in the photo playing Call of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play Call of Duty battle royale game that has since been replaced by Warzone 2.0. Both Warzone games offer cross-platform play, meaning that players on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation can all play in lobbies together.
At around the same time as the photo was taken, a number of F1 drivers were seen with gaming setups that were similar or the same as the one Lewis gifted to Nicolas. Fellow F1 driver Yuki Tsunoda was spotted playing competing free-to-play battle royale game Apex Legends on a very similar gaming station back in 2021.
The set-up likely cost more than $1500, but there may be a cheaper option soon. Microsoft recently said it wanted to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo consoles, should its $100 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard get approval from competition regulators across the world.
The company said it had signed a 10-year deal with Nintendo to bring the game to its consoles, and offered similar deals to Sony and Valve, owner of the Steam PC gaming digital storefront.
Microsoft walked back comments on the $100b merger last week, softening language in its response to a lawsuit from the USA’s FTC. The company previously suggested that the lawsuit brought against it was a violation of the US constitution, comments which it has since removed from its response to the court.
