Xbox leaks own presentation details
Xbox’s German arm accidentally revealed details about the upcoming Xbox developer presentation, before quickly removing them.
Xbox Germany has accidentally revealed some key details about the publisher’s upcoming presentation in its announcement of the showcase, before quickly changing its announcement.
Microsoft announced the Xbox presentation, which is set to show off new games, earlier in the week, saying that it will contain new information about a number of titles, including Minecraft Legends and Redfall, which are said to be releasing “in the next few months”.
The presentation is set for the end of January, but Microsoft was fairly quiet on what the showcase would contain. We do know, however, that Starfield won’t be included, with Microsoft instead opting to host a separate showcase for it somewhere down the line.
Xbox Germany seems to have gotten a little bit excited with the announcement, however. As reported by VGC, the German announcement of the presentation suggested that release dates for the titles included will be announced during the show.
“Developer_Direct will focus on amazing features, extensive gameplay showcases and first-time shared release dates for great Xbox titles coming out over the next few months – including The Elder Scrolls Online, Forza Motorsport, Minecraft Legends and Redfall”.
The line was quickly deleted after being noticed by fans.
It’s not a stretch to think that Forza, Minecraft Legends, and Redfall would get release date announcements later this month, given they’re all meant to be coming sometime in the next few months. Still, the announcement gives fans plenty of reason to tune in when it airs in two weeks.
It comes as Microsoft is embroiled in an international investigation by regulators into its proposed $100 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Competition regulators from across the globe, including the USA’s FTC, the UK’s CMA, and Australia’s own ACCC are all looking into the deal to try and ascertain whether the acquisition would stifle competition and innovation in the video games space.
If successful, the deal would become the largest acquisition in video game history, costing over five times the amount of the current record-holder, Take-Two Interactive’s $18 billion acquisition of mobile game publisher Zynga.
Microsoft yesterday announced a new Xbox update that could save players money, with a new system setting available to Xbox Insiders now. The setting, called “Shutdown (energy saving)” will use up to 20 times less energy than the usual Sleep option, but isn’t currently available to all players.
