Street Fighter 6’s character creator is incredible

Street Fighter 6 entered beta today, and with it came the ability to create your own fighter. Fans started creating the goofiest fighters imaginable.

Esports organisation under fire over 'predatory' cut to streamers' pay

While other fighting games have let you make some wacky characters (Soul Caliber being the series that springs to mind first,) Street Fighter has historically not let you create your own fighter. That changes with Street Fighter 6, and the community is running wild with it.

Most people are familiar with the core cast from Street Fighter — Ryu, Chun Li, Dhalsim and so on. Never before has there been an option to bring a custom character up against these legends of gaming — players would be locked to the characters Capcom, the developer, created. With Street Fighter 6, a slew of new features have been added to the series, including customizable characters.

Naturally, fans who got access to the beta started creating the wackiest-looking, knock-off action figures imaginable.

While the character creator is getting a lot of attention, the other new features coming to Street Fighter 6 shouldn’t be ignored — the game is getting a lot of customizable options for things like loading screens and profiles, pre-made commentary tracks loaded into the game, and even giving the players the option to alter their characters’ expressions while loading into a match.

Players will also be able to explore a story mode and world as their created fighter, roaming the various areas to learn techniques from the cast, like Chun Li’s Spinning Bird Kick. Street Fighter 6 is also upping things from a competitive players’ standpoint as well, adding a new netcode (featuring rollback!) and the Drive Impact system, which offers a lot of flexibility and options.

Street Fighter 6 has no specific release date, but it will release in 2023.

In other news, Overwatch 2’s servers have been getting hammered since launch, with a DDOS attack adding complications to the mix. The new trailer for the Super Mario Bros. Movie has been officially released, and with it comes the voice previews for Jack Black as Bowser and Chris Pratt as Mario.
