Mobile game Diablo Immortal makes $140 million in revenue in just two months

Mobile game has amassed $140 million AUD in revenue in only two months since release, even though it’s not sitting well with diehard fans of the series.

Diablo Immortal: The Best Starter Class for You

Diablo Immortal, a top-down action looter mobile game, has generated $100 million in player revenue in two months. With the game’s impending launch in China, it is expected to balloon heavily.

While many fans and casual players are unhappy with Diablo Immortal’s monetisation practices, it hasn’t stopped some from spending big. Over the course of eight weeks, Diablo Immortal’s earnings reached $100 million USD, or approximately $140 million AUD, in player spending.

Diablo Immortal caught no shortage of critique when it was revealed how much money it would cost to be a “competitive” player in the game. Approximately $150,000 AUD, depending on how lucky you get, is what would be required from a single player to “maximise” their character. The backlash to Diablo Immortal has been, and still is, enormous. Despite this astronomical cost — no other mobile game requires anywhere near this much to maximise a character — players are still spending heavily on the game.

That amount of money is expected to surge after the launch of Diablo Immortal in China. Previously thought to be joining China’s list of banned games, it is finally making its way over there — and China is a notoriously big spender when it comes to mobile games. Genshin Impact, one of the world’s largest mobile games in terms of revenue, earned just under $1.5 billion in the first half of the fiscal year, bolstered by spending from China.

However, the speed at which Diablo Immortal has reached its milestone is what is truly newsworthy. It ranks second, behind only Pokemon Go, which reached $100 million USD in only two weeks, followed by other popular mobile games like Fire Emblem Heroes and Fortnite Mobile.

That’s not the only Diablo news to make headlines. If you’re a fan of Diablo, then you know that Diablo IV is coming out soon. You can get guaranteed beta access, but only if you get a tattoo from world-famous tattoo artists. The Hell’s Ink team will be visiting Melbourne and Sydney this September for those looking to add demonic ink to their skin.
