Huge Elden Ring update adds colosseum

A gigantic Elden Ring update has landed, offering new player versus player combat and cosmetic options entirely for free

Monster Hunter Rise is coming to Xbox Game Pass

Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have released all-new free DLC for hit game Elden Ring, adding new battle arenas for player versus player (PVP) combat.

The new update, aptly titled the Colosseum update, is available for players right now and adds a host of new arena activities where players can fight against each other. The new arenas are located in Limgrave, Caelid, and Leyndell, and each arena hosts different activities.

The Limgrave Colosseum has two different PVP game modes: United Combat and Combat Ordeal. United Combat has players split up to teams, with deaths and respawns offering points to the opposing team, while Combat Ordeal is an every player for themselves, with whoever has the most kills at the end of the timer being awarded the victory.

The Leyndell Colosseum offers a Duel Mode, which has two players face off against each other in a simple 1v1 battle with no respawns; whoever dies first is the loser. The Caelid Colosseum offers all of the modes available in the other two colosseums, but also allows players to summon Spirit Ashes, helpful creatures that assist in combat.

The free DLC update also offers five new hairstyles for players to equip to their characters, offering more customisation options for players who value fashion as much as they value damage output.

The tough-as-nails Elden Ring is likely to have a lot more eyes on it later this week, after nominations were revealed for the 2022 Game Awards. The awards show, which is due to air this Friday, could see Elden Ring take home as many as ten awards, including the highest honour, the Game of the Year award. The recently-released God of War Ragnarok is also nominated for ten awards, with both games having received near-universal acclaim from critics and fans alike.

Melbourne-made indie title Cult of the Lamb could also take home an award, having been nominated for the Best Indie award. The Aussie game recently won a coveted Golden Joystick award for Best Indie Game, widely considered one of the most prestigious awards in the games industry.
