Dragon Age 4 gets a new teaser

A new teaser for the upcoming Dragon Age game hints at a mysterious character and nobody’s quite sure what they’re up to

Monster Hunter Rise is coming to Xbox Game Pass

Dragon Age developer Bioware has released a new cinematic trailer for the upcoming and highly anticipated Dragon Age 4, showing off new details about the story.

The game is officially titled Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, and will focus on a mysterious character that has been seen as controversial by fans. Fen’Harel, the Lord of Tricksters, played a secret role in Dragon Age Inquisition and its DLC, pulling the strings behind the scenes.

The Dragon Age series is a long-running fantasy RPG series made by EA subsidiary Bioware, which is based out of Alberta, Canada. The studio also made highly-successful games like Baldur’s Gate, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and the incredibly popular Mass Effect series.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has been in development since 2015, but was reportedly cancelled and rebooted in 2017 and 2018, respectively. It will act as a direct sequel to 2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisition, and seemingly pick up the story shortly after that game ends.

Bioware has been slowly releasing information on the game over the last twelve months, and the new trailer was accompanied by a blog post detailing progress on the game. The company says that the game has entered its “alpha” stage, referring to a playable, but incomplete and often quite buggy early version of the game.

The development studio says that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will enter the production stage in February, and while this is quite vague in terms of game development, it could mean that the game is a year or more away from release.

Interestingly, GameSpot’s upload of the trailer lists the game as coming to “PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC”. Bioware has yet to officially confirm platforms for the game, but given the PS4 and Xbox One are nine years old, releasing on those platforms might be pushing the hardware a little bit too far.

Dragon Age Inquisition released on previous generation consoles, the PS3 and Xbox 360, in addition to its target platforms the PS4 and Xbox One, and was criticised on last-gen consoles for its poor performance and bugs.

Publisher EA recently had to apologise for “rude” tweets, after its official Need for Speed Twitter account got “a bit caught up in the hype” for its upcoming Need for Speed Unbound game. The account lashed out at fans questioning the game’s marketing strategy, calling one user a “milkshake brain” and encouraging them to “cry about it”.

It comes after EA revealed that they were cancelling the Project CARS series, after it acquired the rights to the series in 2021. A new game had been in development for the series, but instead the staff on that game will be moving onto other projects as EA moves to focus on its strengths.
