“Held at gunpoint” — game store suffers skyrocketing crime

A family-owned business has suffered three thefts since July, with the most recent being at gunpoint. The robber stole cash, some hardware, and some Pokemon cards.

Pink Gorilla Games, a privately-owned Seattle business in the United States, has been targeted by a string of attacks and thefts, causing the owner to consider moving from his home for the first time in 17 years.

Seattle has experienced in a surge in crime in recent months, and a beloved video game store — the oldest video game store in the Pacific Northwest, and a city attraction — has suffered yet another theft. Pink Gorilla Games was held at gunpoint by a masked robber, who made off with a number of valuable items and cash.

Cody, the co-owner of the store, stated that he “really [doesn’t] want to leave, but can’t live with anyone getting shot.” This is the third robbery the store has suffered since July, where they were broken into twice by a masked robber who smashed the door glass, before pilfering nearby store items.

“This is our original location. We’ve been there 17 years. It’s a major Seattle tourist attraction. Relocating would be heartbreaking and financially devastating,” Cody stated via Twitter, responding to many who suggested moving locations to somewhere safer.

The outpour of support on Twitter may be nice, but as of this article’s publishing, the culprit has not been caught. Cody believes that this latest attack was targeted — he mentions that the same person had been snooping around after closing hours, trying to gain entry.

In other gaming news, some drama on the Dota 2 professional circuit, as competitive team Fnatic alleges that their opponents could hear the commentators, giving them an unfair advantage. An upset occurred on the League of Legends side of things, with a team defeating the 2021 world champions after falling behind 2-0 in a best of 5 and pushing their way into the semi-finals.

Finally, indie darling Terraria, a crafting and mining game similar to Minecraft, became the first indie title to break one million positive reviews — a feat previously only achieved by AAA games, such as Counter Strike and Dota 2.
