A new report has claimed that a new single-player game in the Titanfall series was in development at EA, but has been cancelled.

The report comes courtesy of Bloomberg, and says that the game would have been a single-player game set in the universe of Titanfall, a popular first person shooter series that spawned a spin-off in Apex Legends.

The two prior Titanfall games have been praised as some of the best first person shooter games on the market, with Titanfall 2 releasing in 2016 to rave reviews. Fans have been waiting and hoping for a third game in the series, but multiple attempts to create one have been unsuccessful.

Developer Respawn Entertainment had started work on a third game in the series, but the project was eventually retooled into Apex Legends, which shares its setting with Titanfall and contains references to events in the previous two games.

Respawn has reportedly again attempted to create a third game in the series, which according to Bloomberg was codenamed Titanfall Legends. The game was reportedly being directed by a veteran designer at Respawn, Mohammad Alavi, before he left EA in 2022.

Bloomberg says that the game’s team was made up of about 50 people, and that EA will attempt to find positions for all of them within other sectors of the company. Any employees who are unable to be placed elsewhere will reportedly receive severance packages and be laid off.

The developer has expanded in recent years, becoming one of EA’s most successful development studios, working not just on the Titanfall series and Apex Legends, but also a number of other projects.

The studio is currently developing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which was recently announced to be delayed by a month. It’s also working on an untitled first-person shooter set in the Star Wars universe, as well as acting as a production lead on a Star Wars strategy game with independent studio Bit Reactor.

The report comes as EA announced it was cancelling two mobile games, cancelling an in-development mobile Battlefield game and shutting down Apex Legends Mobile just eight months after it was released. The company cited the increasingly poor quality of updates to Apex Legends Mobile as the reason for the shutdown.
