Electronic Arts (EA) and developer Respawn Entertainment have announced that the release of Star Wars: Jedi Survivor will be delayed by a month.

EA and Respawn shared the news of the delay in a blog post which was then cross-posted to Twitter, saying that the team was delaying the game to “achieve the level of polish our fans deserve”.

“For the last three years, the Jedi team here at Respawn has poured its collective heart and soul into Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and we are proud to say the next chapter in the tale of Cal Kestis is content complete,” reads the statement, “In order for the team to hit the Respawn quality bar, provide the team the time they need, and achieve the level of polish our fans deserve, we have added six crucial weeks to our release schedule – Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will now launch globally on April 28th”.

The game was initially said to be launching on March 17, with this new release date meaning the game has been pushed back by six weeks. Developer Respawn will be using the time to fix bugs, polish any remaining flaws, and likely make minor tweaks to some gameplay aspects.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a sequel to the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which was released in 2019 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game received glowing reviews, with critics praising the game for its story and gameplay, although some criticised it for poor technical performance on some platforms.

The sequel takes things up a notch, setting the game five years after the events of the first game and adding new combat styles, improved visuals, and “significantly faster load times” thanks to the speed of the disk drives in Xbox Series and PS5 consoles.

It won’t be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the game’s director Stig Asmussen saying that the last-generation consoles aren’t powerful enough for everything the team wanted to do.

It’s not the only high profile game to face a delay recently. Black Myth: Wukong was revealed to be facing a huge delay in a strange trailer released to celebrate Lunar New Year.

Skull and Bones, a big Ubisoft game, was also delayed for a sixth time, with the company also cancelling three unannounced games that were in development. Skull and Bones was first intended to be released in late 2018.
