Rachael Ostovich axed as UFC prepares to slash its roster
Rachael Ostovich is being shafted by the UFC and she won’t be the only one to lose her job with the promotion before the year is out.
Rachael Ostovich has been cut from the UFC as the promotion prepares to slash the number of fighters on its roster by year’s end.
MMA Junkie reports The 29-year-old flyweight was released on the back of consecutive losses to Gina Mazany in November and Paige VanZant in 2019.

Ostovich has a 4-6 record in her professional MMA career and made her way into the UFC via The Ultimate Fighter reality TV series, where she advanced to the finale of the 2017 edition and submitted Karone Gevorgyan.
She also took part in the 2018 edition, but lost to Montana De La Rosa in the finale.
Ostovich was banned for eight months earlier this year after a positive drugs test and her suspension was due to end in early January, but that doesn’t matter now.
In November 2018 she was allegedly the victim of a violent attack by her MMA-fighting husband Arnold Berdon, who was sentenced to four years of probation after pleading no contest to an assault charge.
Ostovich filed for a restraining order after alleging Berdon hit her in the head and ribs, causing her to vomit and cough up blood.
The Hawaiian-born fighter won’t be back in the Octagon any time soon after being given her marching orders — and she’s not alone. UFC president Dana White flagged on the weekend as many as 60 fighters could be axed by the time 2021 rolls around.

“We’re going to go through some serious cuts here at the end of the year,” White said. “We’re probably going to have 60 cuts before the first of the year.
“Our roster is very inflated right now. We’re going to have some big cuts coming before the end of the year. You’re going to see a lot of names going here in the next several weeks.
“We’re just literally starting to go through the list. … these are the tough decisions you’ve gotta make.”
The UFC world was surprised to learn veteran Yoel Romero was one of the fighters who are parting ways with the promotion, news emerging on the weekend the 43-year-old Cuban had been cut despite having three fights left on his existing deal.
“While we didn’t expect Romero’s time in the UFC to end like this, we are grateful for the opportunities Dana White, (UFC general counsel) Hunter Campbell and (matchmaker) Mick Maynard gave him over the years,” Romero’s manager Malki Kawa told ESPN.
“He’s ready to move on now and resume his career, and we are already talking to other promotions as we speak.”
